The organisation Plastic Change has moved into the Hjemhavn x HAVS store at Sdr. Strandvej 5 in Løkken.
Here you can participate in one of the summer's 25 beach clean-ups – Beach Clean Ups – starting from the store. See dates below.
The plastic waste that citizens and tourists collect together is stored and used for an art project by climate artist Lise Vestergaard: a 14-meter-long sperm whale built from collected marine plastic.
The inspiration for the artwork comes from a tragic reality that hit the North Jutland coasts in February 2026. A large sperm whale stranded at Ålbæk. A subsequent autopsy showed that the whale had died of starvation because it had 12 kg of plastic, ropes, and fishing nets stuck in its throat, making it impossible for it to ingest food.
Once completed, the whale will embark on an educational tour around Denmark. It will bring with it both ghost nets from the seabed and school outreach activities, intended to inspire action against the disposable culture.
After each beach clean-up, we offer coffee, cake, and ice cream to the youngest participants — and together we tally up the day's collection.
Remember practical clothing, sunscreen, and possibly gloves.

*) Clean Up Special
July 15 - July 29 - August 5
Clean Up Special is a joint trip to a selected plastic hotspot along the west coast, where we collectively remove larger quantities of plastic and waste.
Normally, we collect waste in the local area around Løkken, but for Clean Up Special, we travel further afield to clear places where there is more plastic than we usually see in our local beach clean-ups.
You should expect to set aside four to five hours. If you can bring a car, it would be a great help so that we can transport participants and equipment to the selected area together.
